Serbia adopted Central European Time in 1884. Clocks went forward in summer from 1941 to 1945, during the Second World War, and then stayed on standard time all year for almost four decades. Summer time returned in 1983, introduced across Yugoslavia, of which Serbia was then a republic; Yugoslavia was the last country in Europe to bring it in. The change now falls at 02:00 on the last Sunday in March and at 03:00 on the last Sunday in October.

Common questions
Questions about the time in Serbia
What time zone is Serbia in?
Central European Time, UTC+1, through the winter, and Central European Summer Time, UTC+2, from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October. Serbian calls standard time srednjoevropsko vreme. The whole country keeps one clock, and the time zone database files it as Europe/Belgrade.
When do the clocks change in Serbia in 2026 and 2027?
Serbian clocks went forward on Sunday 29 March 2026, from 02:00 to 03:00, and go back on Sunday 25 October 2026, from 03:00 to 02:00. In 2027 summer time starts on 28 March and ends on 31 October. Both changes happen at 01:00 UTC, the same instant as in the European Union.
Why does Serbia change its clocks with the EU if it is not a member?
European Summer Time begins and ends at 01:00 UTC on the last Sundays of March and October in every European state that keeps summer time, European Union members, EFTA states and associated countries alike. Serbia follows the same schedule. As a result no gap opens in spring or autumn with Hungary and Croatia, its neighbours inside the Union, which sit on the same zone.
Is Serbia on the same time as Romania and Bulgaria?
No. Romania and Bulgaria keep Eastern European Time, UTC+2 in winter and UTC+3 in summer, so both are one hour ahead of Belgrade. The three countries change their clocks on the same nights, which keeps that hour fixed all year. Hungary and Croatia, to the north and west, show the same time as Serbia.
When did Serbia start using summer time?
The present run began in 1983, when Yugoslavia introduced summer time, later than any other country in Europe. Serbia had kept summer time once before, from 1941 to 1945, and went without it for almost four decades in between. Today the dates follow the European schedule, from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October.
How are the time and the date written in Serbia?
Written times use the 24-hour clock, so half past two in the afternoon is 14:30, although speech often falls back on the 12-hour clock and leaves morning or evening to context. A short date puts the day first and closes every part with a full stop, year included: 5. 3. 2026. The long form spells the month in Cyrillic, 5. март 2026., and the week begins on Monday.
What is the time difference between Serbia and London?
Belgrade is one hour ahead of London throughout the year. The United Kingdom moves from Greenwich Mean Time to British Summer Time on the same Sunday in March that Serbia moves to CEST, and both go back on the same Sunday in October. Noon in London is 13:00 in Belgrade in January and in July.
