Tuesday, 20 October 2026
Guatemala has 12 public holidays with a day off in 2026, and 12 again in 2027. Three of them come together in Semana Santa, Holy Week: Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday are all off, so Easter brings four days in a row. Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve close the year as half days.
The Labour Code sets the days with paid leave. Three mark the country's own history: Army Day on 30 June, Independence Day on 15 September for the Act of Independence of Central America of 1821, and Revolution Day on 20 October for the uprising of 1944 against Jorge Ubico.
Two more days are off for only part of the country. 15 August, the Assumption, is a holiday in Guatemala City alone, and working mothers have 10 May off for Mothers' Day.

Common questions
Questions about public holidays in Guatemala
How many public holidays does Guatemala have in 2026?
Twelve with a day off for everyone, two of them half days: Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, when the holiday starts at noon. Two of the twelve fall on a weekend in 2026, Holy Saturday on 4 April and All Saints' Day on Sunday 1 November. In 2027 the count is again twelve, with three on a weekend: Holy Saturday, 1 May and Christmas Day.
Which days of Holy Week are off in Guatemala?
Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday. In 2026 they fall from 2 to 4 April, and in 2027 from 25 to 27 March. With Easter Sunday the break lasts four days, Thursday to Sunday, without any leave taken. Easter Monday is listed only as an observance, so it is a working day and the week after Easter starts on the Monday as usual.
What happens at noon on 24 and 31 December in Guatemala?
Work stops for the holiday. Noche Buena on 24 December and Víspera de Año Nuevo on 31 December are holidays from noon, so the morning is worked. In 2026 both fall on a Thursday, and each runs into a full day off on the Friday: Christmas Day and then New Year's Day 2027. In 2027 both fall on a Friday.
What does Revolution Day on 20 October commemorate?
The uprising of 1944 against Jorge Ubico, which opened the Ten Years of Spring, the democratic period that followed it. The day is called Día de la Revolución. 20 October is a Tuesday in 2026 and a Wednesday in 2027, so neither year gives a long weekend without leave.
Which holiday is kept only in Guatemala City?
15 August, the Assumption of Mary. It is a municipal holiday, kept in the capital while the rest of the country works, and it is not one of the twelve national days off. 15 August 2026 is a Saturday, so that year the capital's holiday takes no weekday out of the working week.
Who has 10 May off in Guatemala?
Working mothers. Mothers' Day on 10 May is a holiday for them alone, while everyone else works as usual, so it is not counted among the national days off. In 2026 the date is a Sunday. Fathers' Day, on 17 June in 2026, carries no day off for anyone.
Is 12 October a holiday in Guatemala?
No. The Día de la Raza is marked on 12 October but is a working day, Monday 12 October included in 2026. The next holiday with a day off after it is Revolution Day, eight days later on 20 October.
What are the long weekends in Guatemala in 2026?
Holy Week gives four days, from Thursday 2 April to Sunday 5 April, and Labour Day on Friday 1 May makes a three-day weekend. At the end of the year the Christmas Eve half day on a Thursday starts four days that end on Sunday 27 December, and New Year's Eve repeats the pattern up to Sunday 3 January. Army Day, Independence Day and Revolution Day all fall on a Tuesday, so a day of leave on Monday 29 June, Monday 14 September or Monday 19 October makes four days.
