What time is it in Greenland?

Most of it, Nuuk included, keeps UTC-2 in winter and UTC-1 in summer, listed in the time zone database as America/Nuuk; Ittoqqortoormiit has its own entry, America/Scoresbysund, with the same offsets. The exceptions are Pituffik Space Base, on UTC-4 and UTC-3, and the northeast coast around Danmarkshavn, on UTC+0 all year. The Danish Realm as a whole spans six time zones, four of them in Greenland.

In Nuuk the clocks jumped from 23:00 on Saturday 28 March 2026 straight to midnight, and they go back an hour when midnight arrives on Sunday 25 October, returning to 23:00 on the Saturday. The change happens at 01:00 UTC, the same instant as in Copenhagen and the Faroe Islands, which is why it lands late on a Saturday evening in local time. In 2027 the Saturdays are 27 March and 30 October.

On 25 March 2023, local time, Greenland moved its clocks an hour forward together with Denmark's spring change, and in October it did not move them back. UTC-2 became standard time on the west coast, where UTC-3 had been standard since 1916. The east coast around Tasiilaq, which had kept East Greenland Time, joined the west coast's zone on 29 October 2023.

Three hours, with Copenhagen ahead, all year. Both places change their clocks at 01:00 UTC on the same Sundays, so the gap does not move between winter and summer. Before the 2023 change it was four hours. A meeting at 12:00 in Copenhagen is at 09:00 in Nuuk.

Pituffik, the base formerly known as Thule, keeps Atlantic time: UTC-4 in winter and UTC-3 in summer, filed as America/Thule. It changes its clocks on the United States' dates rather than the European ones Nuuk follows. For most of the year the base is two hours behind Nuuk. In the weeks when one side has changed and the other has not, the gap narrows to one hour.

All of it except the northeast coast. Danmarkshavn, Station Nord and the parts of Northeast Greenland National Park on UTC+0 keep that offset all year, the same time as Iceland, because the area is generally supplied from Iceland. The zone has few settlements beyond the weather and research stations. Everywhere else moves the clocks an hour forward in spring.

Nuuk is two hours behind London throughout the year. The United Kingdom and Greenland both change their clocks at 01:00 UTC on the last Sunday in March and the last Sunday in October, so the difference holds in both seasons: at 14:00 in London it is 12:00 in Nuuk. The northeast coast keeps London's winter time all year, level in winter and an hour behind in summer.

The present run began in 1980. Before that the west coast had kept UTC-3 all year since 1916, when West Greenland replaced Nuuk's local mean time, three hours and 26 minutes behind Greenwich. From 1980 the clocks moved between UTC-3 and UTC-2, and since 2024 they have moved between UTC-2 and UTC-1.
