San Marino's official calendar lists 20 holidays for 2026, Easter Sunday among them, and two of them follow from the way the republic is governed: 1 April and 1 October, the days on which two new Captains Regent take office as joint heads of state for six months. The rest mix Catholic feasts with the republic's own history, from a liberation in 1740 to the fall of its Fascist party.

Three days come straight from that history. 5 February marks the end of the Alberonian occupation in 1740, which fell on the feast of Saint Agatha and made her co-patron of the republic. 25 March recalls the Arengo of 1906, a meeting of the citizens, and is also the Feast of the Militants. 3 September is the feast of Saint Marinus and the anniversary of the republic's foundation, which tradition sets in 301.

The year closes with more days off than it opens with. Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve are holidays in their own right, and 2 November, All Souls' Day elsewhere, is kept for every Sammarinese who died in war.

The investiture of the Captains Regent is a holiday twice a year. The Great and General Council nominates two of them every six months, and they take office on 1 April and 1 October. Both days are national holidays on the central bank's payment calendar and on the list published by the San Marino Aircraft Registry. In 2027 the dates fall on a Thursday and a Friday, the second making a three-day weekend.

The central bank keeps the national payment system shut on Saturdays, Sundays and every day on its list. Its Italian calendar gives each day its local name, among them Lunedì dell'Angelo for Easter Monday and Ultimo dell'anno for New Year's Eve.
