Belarus has nine holidays with a day off, New Year among them counting twice for 1 and 2 January, so the list gives ten days off. In 2026 the government adds an eleventh, Monday 20 April, moved from Saturday 25 April to join Radunitsa to the weekend. The calendar is split between two churches. Christmas is kept on 7 January by the Orthodox calendar and again on 25 December by the Catholic one, and Radunitsa, the Orthodox day of commemoration of the departed, falls on a Tuesday nine days after Orthodox Easter.
The days are set by Decree No. 157 of 26 March 1998, which sorts them into national holidays, country-wide holidays and religious holidays. Rank and rest do not line up. Of the six national holidays, only Victory Day on 9 May and Independence Day on 3 July stop work; Constitution Day on 15 March and the Day of People's Unity on 17 September are working days, while Women's Day and October Revolution Day, both country-wide holidays of lower rank, are days off.
2027 has fewer weekdays off. Six of its ten holiday dates fall on a Saturday or a Sunday, including Labour Day, Victory Day, Independence Day and Catholic Christmas.

The Council of Ministers can move a working day to join a holiday to the weekend, and it fixes the moves for each year in advance. For 2026 it moved Monday 20 April to Saturday 25 April, which turned Saturday 18 to Tuesday 21 April into four days at home. Employers whose work cannot stop may move working days in another order.
Easter is not a separate day off. Both the Orthodox and the Catholic Easter appear among the religious holidays, but both fall on a Sunday: 5 and 12 April in 2026, 28 March and 2 May in 2027. Dziady on 2 November, the autumn day of commemoration of the departed, is marked with no day off, and so are Defenders of the Fatherland Day on 23 February, the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia on 2 April and the day of the flag, emblem and anthem on the second Sunday in May.

How many public holidays does Belarus have in 2026?
Eleven days off in 2026, from nine holidays and one moved working day. New Year takes two, 1 and 2 January, and the rest are single dates: Orthodox Christmas, Women's Day, Radunitsa, Labour Day, Victory Day, Independence Day, October Revolution Day and Catholic Christmas. Monday 20 April is the eleventh, worked back on Saturday 25 April. Three holidays fall on a weekend in 2026: 8 March is a Sunday, and 9 May and 7 November are Saturdays.
Why does Belarus celebrate Christmas twice?
Because the decree on holidays recognises two churches. Orthodox Christmas on 7 January follows the calendar of the Eastern Orthodox Church, and Catholic Christmas on 25 December follows the Roman Catholic one. Both are days off. The decree also dates Easter by both calendars, though Easter Sunday brings no extra day off.
When is Radunitsa in 2026 and 2027?
Tuesday 21 April 2026 and Tuesday 11 May 2027. Radunitsa is set nine days after Orthodox Easter, which fell on 12 April in 2026 and falls on 2 May in 2027, so it moves with Easter but always lands on a Tuesday. It is the day of commemoration of the departed, and the only moving holiday in the Belarusian calendar with a day off.
Is Constitution Day a day off in Belarus?
No. Constitution Day on 15 March, which marks the constitution adopted in 1994, is one of the six national holidays, the highest class in the decree, yet it is an ordinary working day. In 2026 it fell on a Sunday and in 2027 on a Monday. The Day of People's Unity on 17 September is in the same position.
What does Independence Day on 3 July mark?
The recapture of Minsk by the Red Army on 3 July 1944, during the Minsk Offensive. The date was adopted in 1996. The decree also names it the Day of the Republic. In 2026 it fell on a Friday and gave a three-day weekend; in 2027 it is a Saturday.
What are the long weekends in Belarus in 2026?
New Year runs from Thursday 1 January to Sunday 4 January. Labour Day on Friday 1 May, Independence Day on Friday 3 July and Catholic Christmas on Friday 25 December each give three days. Radunitsa on Tuesday 21 April made four with the Monday before it, worked back on Saturday 25 April. Orthodox Christmas on Wednesday 7 January stood alone in midweek.
Why do so many holidays fall on a weekend in 2027?
The fixed dates happen to land that way. 2 January, 1 May, 3 July and 25 December are Saturdays, and 9 May and 7 November are Sundays, so six of the ten dates fall outside the working week. Neither the official list nor timeanddate's calendar for 2027 names a weekday to replace them. The weekday holidays left are 1 January, 7 January, 8 March and 11 May.
Is 7 November still a holiday in Belarus?
Yes. October Revolution Day, for the revolution of 1917, remains a day off and is listed among the country-wide holidays next to New Year and Labour Day. It falls on a Saturday in 2026 and a Sunday in 2027, so neither year gets a working day off from it.
