Anguilla keeps Atlantic Standard Time, four hours behind UTC, on every day of the year. The territory has never observed summer time, so its clocks do not move in March or November, and a single zone covers the main island and every outer cay, Sombrero included. The United Kingdom, which is responsible for the territory, changes its own clocks twice a year, so the gap between The Valley and London widens and narrows while Anguillan clocks stay where they are.

Common questions

Questions about the time in Anguilla

What time zone is Anguilla in?

Atlantic Standard Time, four hours behind Coordinated Universal Time, identified in the time zone database as America/Anguilla. The zone is the same across the whole territory: the main island, Dog Island, Scrub Island and the uninhabited outer cays out to Sombrero all keep one time.

Does Anguilla change its clocks for summer?

No. Anguilla has never observed daylight saving time, and the time zone database records no clock change for it in any year it covers. The clocks show the same offset in January and in July, and nothing needs resetting on the island when Britain changes its own in spring and autumn.

Why does the time difference with London change during the year?

Because Britain moves its clocks and Anguilla does not. British Summer Time runs from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October, and during those months the gap between London and The Valley is an hour wider than in winter. The territory's own time never moves, whatever London does, so the change is entirely on the British side.

Which other territories share Anguilla's time?

Among the British Overseas Territories, the British Virgin Islands and Montserrat also keep Atlantic Standard Time all year and have never observed summer time. Bermuda uses the same standard time but moves its clocks forward in summer, so for part of the year it runs an hour ahead of Anguilla.

Do Anguillans use the 24-hour clock?

The Unicode locale data for English as used in Anguilla gives the 24-hour clock and writes dates day first, then month, then year, with Monday as the first day of the week. The page shows sample formats taken from that data. Official timetables such as the ferry schedule at Blowing Point are published with morning and afternoon times instead.
