After it: New Year's Day, Friday 1 January

Friday, 6 November 2026

Tajik law lists 12 non-working holidays, as Asia-Plus reported the list in January 2026: New Year's Day, 8 March, four days of Navruz from 21 to 24 March, Victory Day, National Unity Day, Independence Day, Constitution Day and the two Eids, Idi Ramazon and Idi Qurbon. The same report counted 97 holidays recognised in all, the rest of them working days. The spring new year takes four of the twelve days, and in 2026 it ran straight on from Eid al-Fitr: Friday 20 March was Idi Ramazon and the four Navruz days followed, so the country was off from Friday to Tuesday 24 March.

Three of the civic days are about the state itself. Independence Day on 9 September marks the declaration of 1991, Constitution Day on 6 November the constitution approved in 1994, and National Unity Day on 27 June the peace agreement signed in Moscow on 27 June 1997 that ended the civil war. When one of the single-day holidays falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the calendars on file give the following Monday off.

Observances

Days marked in Tajikistan that are not days off

  1. 1 May: Labour DayРӯзи меҳнатLabour Day, 1 May. The holiday law of 1995 listed it, but it is not among the 12 non-working days in the current list, and timeanddate files it as an observance.Friday

The Monday rule is what the calendars show, applied to single days only. Navruz gets no extra day when part of it falls on a weekend: in 2026 its first two days were a Saturday and a Sunday, and in 2027 the first is a Sunday, and timeanddate lists no replacement in either year. Qppstudio, for 2027, lists Thursday 25 March as a further Navruz holiday; the dates here follow timeanddate.

The 2027 dates of both Eids depend on the moon and are marked tentative by timeanddate, which gives Wednesday 10 March and Monday 17 May. Qppstudio and Office Holidays both give a day earlier for each, Tuesday 9 March and Sunday 16 May, with qppstudio adding Monday 17 May as a day off. Office Holidays also moves the Constitution Day holiday of 2027 to Friday 5 November where timeanddate has Monday 8 November.

The list has changed over time. The holiday law of 3 November 1995 included 1 May as the international day of workers' solidarity, as well as Mehrgon and Sada, and was voided in 2011. In January 2026 the government sent parliament a proposal to add a Day of Social Insurance and Pension Workers on 1 July as a working holiday.

Common questions

Questions about public holidays in Tajikistan

How many public holidays does Tajikistan have?

Twelve non-working days under the holiday law, as Asia-Plus listed them in January 2026: 1 January, 8 March, 21 to 24 March for Navruz, 9 May, 27 June, 9 September, 6 November, Idi Ramazon and Idi Qurbon. The same report counted 97 recognised holidays in all; the rest are working days.

How long is Navruz in Tajikistan?

Four days, from 21 to 24 March every year. In 2026 they ran from Saturday to Tuesday, straight after Eid al-Fitr on Friday 20 March, and in 2027 they run from Sunday to Wednesday. Neither year gets a replacement day in timeanddate's calendar for the weekend days.

When are the Eids in Tajikistan in 2026 and 2027?

Idi Ramazon, Eid al-Fitr, was on Friday 20 March 2026 and Idi Qurbon, Eid al-Adha, on Wednesday 27 May 2026. For 2027 timeanddate gives Wednesday 10 March and Monday 17 May as tentative dates; qppstudio and Office Holidays give one day earlier for both, so the final days depend on the moon.

What happens when a holiday falls on a weekend?

A single-day holiday that lands on a Saturday or Sunday is followed by a day off on the Monday: 9 March and 11 May in 2026, and 10 May, 28 June and 8 November in 2027. The four days of Navruz are the exception, with no replacement for the weekend days in either year.

Is 1 May a day off in Tajikistan?

No. Labour Day was in the holiday law of 1995 as the international day of workers' solidarity, but it does not appear among the 12 non-working days listed in January 2026, and timeanddate marks it as an observance. In 2026 it fell on a Friday and in 2027 on a Saturday.

What does National Unity Day commemorate?

The peace agreement that ended the Tajik civil war. On 27 June 1997 the government, the United Tajik Opposition and the UN special envoy signed the General Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and National Accord in Moscow, closing a war that had begun in May 1992. The day is off every year, and in both 2026 and 2027, when 27 June fell on a weekend, the following Monday was off as well.

Which holidays come from the Persian calendar?

Navruz, the new year at the spring equinox, is the one that is a day off, and it takes four. The holiday law of 1995 also named Mehrgon and Sada among its holidays, and UNESCO has inscribed Navruz, the ceremony of Mehregan and the Sadeh celebration on its intangible heritage list for Tajikistan.
