Indonesia's calendar of days off is set each year by a joint decree of three ministers, religious affairs, manpower and civil-service reform, known as the SKB 3 Menteri. The decree for 2026, signed on 19 September 2025, lists 17 national holidays and 8 days of collective leave, cuti bersama; the decree for 2027, signed on 15 September 2026, lists 18 national holidays and 8 days of collective leave. Easter Sunday is among the national holidays in both years, so the number of weekdays and Saturdays off is one lower.
The calendar is built on four calendars at once. Five of the holidays follow the Islamic lunar calendar, so their dates move earlier from one year to the next, and in 2027 Isra Mikraj falls twice, on Tuesday 5 January and Sunday 26 December. Chinese New Year follows the Chinese calendar, Nyepi the Balinese Saka calendar and Vesak the Buddhist one, while Christmas, Good Friday, Easter and Ascension Day sit beside the secular days: New Year, Labour Day, Pancasila Day on 1 June and Independence Day on 17 August.
The collective leave days are placed next to the holidays to join them into long breaks. In 2026 they turn Nyepi and Lebaran into a single run from Wednesday 18 March to Tuesday 24 March for those who take them; in 2027 the same pattern runs from Monday 8 March to Monday 15 March.

Cuti bersama is collective leave, not a public holiday. The decree says the days reduce each employee's annual leave entitlement. Civil servants take them under the civil-service rules; in private firms the decision rests with each employer. Hospitals, health centres, utilities, banks, transport, the fire service and other bodies serving the public are told to arrange their staff over the holidays and the leave days. The calendar on this page lists the cuti bersama days as optional, and they are not counted among the days off.
Easter Sunday has been a national holiday only since 2024; Good Friday has been one since 1971 and Ascension Day since 1968, after an earlier spell from 1953 to 1962. The decrees name all three after Yesus Kristus, Jesus Christ: Wafat, Kebangkitan and Kenaikan Yesus Kristus.
Polling day in a general or regional election is also a public holiday, declared under the Elections Law of 2017. Employees who are not needed at work that day are entitled to the day off or to a day's pay.
Common questions
Questions about public holidays in Indonesia
How many public holidays does Indonesia have in 2026?
The joint ministerial decree for 2026 lists 17 national holidays and 8 days of collective leave, cuti bersama, 25 days in all. Easter Sunday, on 5 April, is one of the 17, and Lebaran is kept over two days, Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 March. The collective leave days reduce annual leave entitlements and are not public holidays in the strict sense.
What does cuti bersama mean for workers?
Collective leave: days the government sets beside the public holidays so that offices close for a longer break. They are fixed in the same three-minister decree as the holidays, eight days in both 2026 and 2027. The decree counts them against each employee's annual leave. Civil servants follow them under civil-service rules, and private employers decide for their own staff.
When is Lebaran in 2026 and 2027?
Idulfitri 1447 Hijriah falls on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 March 2026, with collective leave on Friday 20, Monday 23 and Tuesday 24 March. Idulfitri 1448 falls on Wednesday 10 and Thursday 11 March 2027, with collective leave on Tuesday 9, Friday 12 and Monday 15 March. The Minister of Religious Affairs confirms the dates by separate decision.
Why are there two Isra Mikraj holidays in 2027?
Because it follows the Islamic lunar calendar, whose dates move earlier against the Gregorian year from one year to the next. Isra Mikraj, on 27 Rajab, falls on Tuesday 5 January 2027 and comes round again on Sunday 26 December 2027. That second date is why the decree for 2027 lists 18 national holidays where the one for 2026 lists 17.
Which parts of Indonesia stop work for Nyepi?
All of it, for the holiday itself. Hari Suci Nyepi, the Balinese day of silence that opens the Saka year, has been a national holiday since 1983, falling on Thursday 19 March 2026 and Monday 8 March 2027. Only on Bali does custom require everyone to stay indoors with no lights or noise, and there the airport closes for the whole day.
Which Indonesian holidays fall on a weekend in 2027?
Six of them. Chinese New Year falls on Saturday 6 February, Labour Day on Saturday 1 May, the Islamic New Year on Sunday 6 June, the Prophet's birthday on Sunday 15 August, Christmas on Saturday 25 December and the second Isra Mikraj on Sunday 26 December. Easter Sunday, on 28 March, always falls on a weekend.
When did Chinese New Year become a holiday in Indonesia?
In 2003. Tahun Baru Imlek has been a national holiday since then, and the decrees add a day of collective leave next to it: Monday 16 February 2026, before the holiday on Tuesday 17 February, and Friday 5 February 2027, before the holiday on Saturday 6 February.
