Clock changes
Brazil does not change its clocks
Brazil used summer time, horário de verão, in 1931 to 1933, 1949 to 1953, 1963 to 1968 and from 1985 to 2019. At first it applied to the whole country; from 1988 it covered only part of it, usually the South, where the length of the day changes more through the year. The last rule moved clocks forward an hour from midnight on the first Sunday in November to midnight on the third Sunday in February, a week later if that Sunday fell in Carnival, in the South, Southeast and Center-West, home to about 65% of the population. It was abolished in 2019, and the time zone database shows no clock change since.

Common questions
Questions about the time in Brazil
What time zone is Brasília in?
Brasília time, UTC−3, all year. The same zone covers the South, Southeast and Northeast, Goiás, Tocantins, Pará and Amapá, so São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and Belém all show the same time as the capital. Wikipedia's article on time in Brazil puts about 93% of the population on this zone, which the time zone database files under America/Sao_Paulo and several regional names.
How many time zones does Brazil have?
Four. Fernando de Noronha time, UTC−2, on the Atlantic islands; Brasília time, UTC−3; Amazon time, UTC−4, in Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Rondônia, Roraima and most of Amazonas; and Acre time, UTC−5, in Acre and the southwest of Amazonas. Amazon time covers about 36% of the land but only about 6% of the people.
Does Brazil still have daylight saving time?
No. Summer time was abolished in 2019, after running every year since 1985 in at least part of the country. Under the last rule the South, Southeast and Center-West moved their clocks forward an hour from the first Sunday in November to the third Sunday in February. Since then the clocks have not changed anywhere in Brazil.
Why did Acre change its time zone twice?
On 24 June 2008 Acre and the southwest of Amazonas moved their clocks forward an hour to join Amazon time, UTC−4. In a non-binding referendum on 31 October 2010 a narrow majority of Acre's voters chose to go back, and Law 12,876, enacted on 30 October 2013, returned the area to UTC−5 from Sunday 10 November 2013. Western Pará, moved to Brasília time in the same 2008 change, stayed there.
Do any places in Brazil keep a different time from their official zone?
Yes. Wikipedia records that 32 municipalities in the Araguaia valley of eastern Mato Grosso, and some in eastern Mato Grosso do Sul such as Bataguassu and Chapadão do Sul, unofficially keep Brasília time, UTC−3, an hour ahead of their states' Amazon time.
What time is it on Fernando de Noronha?
UTC−2, an hour ahead of Brasília. Fernando de Noronha is the one island on this zone with a permanent population, 3,167 people at the 2022 census; the other islands on it, Trindade and Martim Vaz, the Rocas Atoll and the São Pedro e São Paulo rocks, are uninhabited or host small rotating navy or scientific teams.
