Brazil has ten national holidays with a day off in 2026, the list the Ministry of Management and Innovation published in Portaria MGI 11.460 of 29 December 2025. Carnival is not among them. The Monday and Tuesday of Carnival, Ash Wednesday until 2 pm and Corpus Christi are pontos facultativos, optional days that federal offices give off, which is why the calendar below shows them as optional rather than as holidays.
One national holiday, 20 November, is the National Day of Zumbi and Black Consciousness, in honour of the leader of the Quilombo dos Palmares. The oldest civic ones mark the independence of 1822, the republic of 1889 and Tiradentes, executed for the conspiracy of 1789.
Federal law lets each state create one holiday of its own and each municipality up to four, so the working calendar differs from place to place: São Paulo state stops on 9 July for the Constitutionalist Revolution of 1932, Bahia on 2 July, Rio Grande do Sul on 20 September.
