Clock changes
Armenia does not change its clocks
Armenia has moved its clocks under three arrangements. Soviet summer time reached it in 1981, taking the clocks from UTC+4 to UTC+5 each summer until 1990. From 1991 to 1995 standard time sat an hour lower, at UTC+3, with summer time at UTC+4. The year 1996 passed with no change at all, and the UTC+4 and UTC+5 pattern came back in 1997 and ran through 2011. Then a government decree cancelled Armenia Summer Time, AMST, and 2012 was the first year without it. The earlier shifts, to UTC+3 in 1924 and to UTC+4 in 1957, moved standard time rather than adding a summer hour.

What time zone is Armenia in?
Armenia Time, AMT, at UTC+4. In Armenian it is Hayastani zhamanak. The offset holds in January and in July, because Armenia keeps no summer time, and a single zone covers the whole country, so the hour in Yerevan is the hour everywhere else in it. The time zone database lists it as Asia/Yerevan.
Does Armenia change its clocks for summer?
No. Armenia Summer Time, which moved the clocks to UTC+5, was last kept in 2011, and a government decree cancelled it in 2012. Every year since has run on UTC+4 without a break. A timetable or a meeting in Yerevan therefore needs adjusting only when the other side of the call changes its own clocks.
When did Armenia last use summer time?
In 2011. Summer time first arrived under Soviet rules in 1981 and ran each year to 1990 at UTC+5. Between 1991 and 1995 the whole scheme sat an hour lower, UTC+3 in winter and UTC+4 in summer. After a pause in 1996 the clocks again went to UTC+5 each summer from 1997, until the 2012 decree ended the practice.
Is Yerevan on the same time as Tbilisi and Baku?
Yes. Georgia Time, Azerbaijan Time and Armenia Time are three names for the same offset, UTC+4, and none of the three changes for summer, so the clocks in Yerevan, Tbilisi and Baku agree all year. Samara Time in Russia and the Gulf Standard Time of the United Arab Emirates share the offset too. Türkiye and Moscow, at UTC+3, run an hour behind.
Why is clock time in Armenia ahead of the sun?
At UTC+4 the clock in Armenia reads about one hour later than solar noon, a consequence of the offset chosen rather than of summer time, which Armenia no longer keeps. The shift is close to that of Paris or Barcelona, and daily life keeps similar hours relative to daylight: an hour later than in Berlin or Vienna, and two hours later than in Warsaw.
What is the time difference between Armenia and London?
Four hours while the United Kingdom is on Greenwich Mean Time, three while it is on British Summer Time. Only the British clocks move, so the three-hour gap runs in 2026 from 29 March to 25 October and in 2027 from 28 March to 31 October. A 10:00 meeting in London in December starts at 14:00 in Yerevan.
What is the time difference between Armenia and New York?
Eight hours during American daylight time, nine outside it. In 2026 New York is eight hours behind from 8 March to 1 November, in 2027 from 14 March to 7 November. Yerevan itself never shifts, so an 18:00 close of business there lands at 10:00 in New York in summer and 09:00 in winter.
