Angola keeps West Africa Time, one hour ahead of UTC, all year round and has never observed summer time. One zone covers the whole country, the Cabinda exclave included, so the clock in Luanda is the clock in Lubango, Huambo and Luena. The time zone database files it as Africa/Luanda, and records the same offset in every year it holds for Angola since 1970.

1970
To today.UTC+01:00 all year, no summer time.

Common questions

Questions about the time in Angola

What time zone is Angola in?

West Africa Time, which is UTC+1. The whole country keeps it, from the Cabinda exclave in the north to the Namibian border in the south, and the time zone database lists it as Africa/Luanda. Because Angola never moves its clocks, the offset stays the same in every month of the year.

Does Angola have daylight saving time?

No. Angola has never observed daylight saving time, and the time zone database shows no clock change for it in any year since 1970. The clocks in Luanda read the same offset from UTC in January and in July, which is why the gap between Angola and the European countries that do change their clocks moves twice a year.

Is Cabinda on the same time as Luanda?

Yes. Cabinda is separated from the rest of Angola by a strip of Congolese territory about 60 kilometres wide along the lower Congo River, but it keeps the same West Africa Time, UTC+1, as Luanda and every other province. A clock in the city of Cabinda and a clock in Luanda always show the same hour.

Is Angola on the same time as Portugal?

Only in the northern summer. Portugal's mainland moves between UTC and UTC+1 over the year, while Angola stays on UTC+1. From the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October, when Lisbon is on summer time, the two capitals show the same time; in the European winter Luanda is one hour ahead of Lisbon.

How are dates and times written in Angola?

In Portuguese, with the day first: 5 March 2026 is written 05/03/26 in short and 5 de março de 2026 in full. Times use the 24-hour clock, so half past two in the afternoon is 14:30, and the week is counted from Monday.
