After it: National Day of Thanksgiving, Saturday 26 December
Friday, 25 December 2026
Solomon Islands has nine national public holidays in 2026, set by the schedule to the Public Holidays Act. Four follow Easter and Pentecost, and Holy Saturday is a day off along with Good Friday and Easter Monday. Independence Day on 7 July marks the day in 1978 when the protectorate became a state, and 26 December is kept as the National Day of Thanksgiving. Each of the nine provinces also has a Province Day of its own, a day off only in that province, which the Minister appoints each year under section 6 of the Act.
The provincial days are what make the calendar particular. Guadalcanal's and Malaita's mark the Second Appointed Day, when each provincial government was established, and Honiara, which is a city and not a province, has none. When a Province Day falls on a Sunday the holiday moves to the Monday after, as Guadalcanal's and Malaita's do in 2027. In 2026 the Malaita provincial government moved its celebrations from 15 August to 18 November.

The national days are fixed by the schedule to the Public Holidays Act, Cap. 151, and the government publishes them each year in a public notice together with the provincial days, which the Minister appoints under section 6 of the Act. The latest notice on file is for 2020. The 2026 and 2027 dates here follow timeanddate and qppstudio, which agree on every national day except the National Day of Thanksgiving of 2026.
Two practices for weekend days appear in the sources. In 2020 the government notice moved the provincial days of Guadalcanal and Malaita, both Saturdays that year, to the Friday before, and the Queen's Birthday from Saturday 13 June to Friday 12 June, while Wikipedia and timeanddate give the rule for a provincial day that falls on a Sunday: the following Monday is the holiday. No source on file gives a substitute for Guadalcanal Province Day on Saturday 1 August 2026, and qppstudio alone moves the National Day of Thanksgiving of 2026, a Saturday, to Monday 28 December. The calendar here keeps both on their dates until the 2026 notice is on file.
