Christmas Day

Eid Al Milad Al Majeed

After it: New Year's Day, Friday 1 January

Friday, 25 December 2026

Jordan has 15 days off in 2026, and 10 of them fall on a working day because the Jordanian weekend is Friday and Saturday. Nine of the fifteen belong to the two Eids: four days of Eid al-Fitr from Friday 20 March and five days around Eid al-Adha from Tuesday 26 May, the Day of Arafah, to Saturday 30 May. The Islamic New Year on Tuesday 16 June and the Prophet's Birthday on Tuesday 25 August complete the lunar days, and the Securities Depository Center's list warns that all of them may move by a day or two with the sighting of the moon.

The fixed days are few: New Year's Day, Independence Day on 25 May, which marks the day in 1946 when Transjordan's parliament ratified the Treaty of London and proclaimed Abdullah king, and Christmas on 25 December. Labour Day is set in law on 1 May, but in 2026 that was a Friday and the holiday was given on Thursday 30 April by decision of the Prime Minister. Independence Day on Monday 25 May runs straight into the Eid al-Adha holiday, so in 2026 the two make one break from Monday to Saturday.

In 2027 the calendars on file give 15 days off again, four of them on the weekend. Eid al-Fitr runs from Tuesday 9 March to Friday 12 March and Eid al-Adha from Sunday 16 May to Thursday 20 May, with Independence Day on Tuesday 25 May, the Islamic New Year on Sunday 6 June and the Prophet's Birthday on Sunday 15 August.

The government often moves a holiday to another day to lengthen a weekend, as Wikipedia's list of Jordanian holidays notes; Labour Day in 2026 is the example on file. The 2027 dates here are a forecast and may change the same way.

The two calendars on file for 2027 differ on two days. Office Holidays gives Eid al-Adha from Sunday 16 May to Thursday 20 May and the Prophet's Birthday on Sunday 15 August; qppstudio gives Eid al-Adha from Saturday 15 May to Wednesday 19 May and the Prophet's Birthday on Saturday 14 August, and also lists Sunday 2 May as a Labour Day holiday for banks and government. The page follows Office Holidays.

Jordanian Christians also have 26 December, Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday and Monday as holidays, according to the Wikipedia list. Timeanddate lists Orthodox Easter Day and Easter Monday as optional holidays and Al Isra' wal Miraj on Saturday 17 January 2026 as an observance; none of these is counted here as a national day off.

Why was Labour Day moved to 30 April in 2026?

Labour Day is 1 May, which in 2026 fell on a Friday, already a day off in Jordan. The Prime Minister decided to give the holiday on Thursday 30 April instead, which joined it to the weekend and made a three-day break. Moving a holiday to stretch a weekend is a common practice of the Jordanian government.

Is Christmas a public holiday in Jordan?

What does Independence Day on 25 May mark?

The day in 1946 when the parliament of Transjordan ratified the Treaty of London, which ended the British mandate, and re-designated Emir Abdullah as king. It falls on a Monday in 2026, the day before the Eid al-Adha holiday begins, and on a Tuesday in 2027.

When is Eid al-Adha in Jordan in 2027?

Office Holidays gives Sunday 16 May to Thursday 20 May 2027, and qppstudio a day earlier, Saturday 15 May to Wednesday 19 May. The exact days depend on the moon sighting that fixes the start of Dhu al-Hijja and on the government's announcement, so the 2027 dates should be read as a forecast.
