Bolivia has 13 days off in 2026, two more than the eleven its standing calendar provides. Supreme Decree 5521, issued in January 2026, moved Plurinational State Day from Thursday 22 January to Friday 23 January and the Andean, Amazonian and Chaco New Year from Sunday 21 June to Monday 22 June, and added Friday 5 June after Corpus Christi and Friday 7 August after Independence Day. The government gave internal tourism and long weekends as the reason. Every one of the 13 falls on a weekday.
The calendar carries the state's two histories side by side. Independence Day on 6 August and the Christian feasts sit beside Plurinational State Day kept on 22 January since 2009 for the constitution that created the Plurinational State, and beside the Andean New Year in June. In 2027, with no decree yet on file, the standing calendar gives eleven days off, two of them on a Saturday.

Days marked in Bolivia that are not days off
- 27 September: National Day of Bolivian IntegrationDía Nacional de la Integración BolivianaA national day of Bolivian integration on 27 September, marked from 2026 without a day off, as the labour ministry announced in January 2026.Sunday
The holiday provider lists two days that neither Wikipedia's list nor the official calendar for 2026 contains: the Feast of the Virgin of Candelaria on 2 February and Agrarian Reform Day on 2 August. They are left out here for both years. Harry Sanabria's account of Bolivian culture names 2 August, the anniversary of the agrarian reform, among the main secular commemorations, which is a different thing from a day off.
Supreme Decree 5521 applies to 2026 alone. The 2027 calendar on this page follows the standing list of eleven days, and if a decree moves or adds days for 2027 the page will change with it. The provider's own name for 2 November is Todos Santos; the official calendar for 2026 calls it the Day of All the Dead, Día de Todos los Difuntos.
Common questions
Questions about public holidays in Bolivia
How many public holidays does Bolivia have in 2026?
Thirteen days off, all on weekdays: New Year's Day, Plurinational State Day on 23 January, Carnival Monday and Tuesday, Good Friday, Labour Day, Corpus Christi and the extra Friday after it, the Andean New Year on 22 June, Independence Day and the extra Friday on 7 August, Todos Santos and Christmas. Two of the 13 were added for 2026 alone by Supreme Decree 5521.
Why were holidays moved in Bolivia in 2026?
Supreme Decree 5521 moved Plurinational State Day from Thursday 22 January to Friday 23 January and the Andean New Year from Sunday 21 June to Monday 22 June, and added two Fridays. The labour ministry and the Ferrere law firm both give the purpose as creating long weekends to support internal tourism and economic activity.
What is Plurinational State Day?
The anniversary of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, kept on 22 January since 2009, after the constitution drafted by the Constituent Assembly was approved. In 2026 the day off was moved to Friday 23 January. The labour ministry announced the move in January 2026 under Supreme Decree 5521, to join the day to the weekend. In 2027 the anniversary falls on a Friday and needs no move.
When is the Andean New Year in Bolivia?
On 21 June, under the official name Año Nuevo Andino Amazónico Chaqueño, the Andean, Amazonian and Chaco New Year. In 2026 the date fell on a Sunday and the day off was moved to Monday 22 June; in 2027 it falls on Monday 21 June.
When is Carnival in Bolivia?
Carnival Monday and Tuesday, before Ash Wednesday, are both days off, so the weekend before runs to four days. In 2026 they fell on 16 and 17 February and in 2027 they fall on 8 and 9 February. The Carnival of Oruro, which by Harry Sanabria's account begins on the Saturday before Ash Wednesday, is a festival in its own right.
Is 2 August a public holiday in Bolivia?
Not in the calendar on file. The holiday provider lists 2 August as Agrarian Reform Day, but the official list for 2026 and Wikipedia's list of eleven standing holidays do not include it, so this page does not count it. Harry Sanabria's account names 2 August, the date of the agrarian reform law, among the main secular commemorations.
What happens if a Bolivian holiday falls on a Sunday?
There is no general rule on file. Wikipedia records that Labour Day moves to the Monday when 1 May is a Sunday, and in 2026 the government moved the Andean New Year from Sunday 21 June to Monday 22 June by decree. Days falling on a Saturday, such as 1 May and 25 December 2027, appear on the Saturday in the calendar on file.
