Antigua and Barbuda has 12 public holidays with a day off in 2026 and 12 in 2027. The calendar's centre of gravity is August: Carnival Monday and Carnival Tuesday, the first Monday and Tuesday of the month, close the Carnival that celebrates emancipation, which freed the enslaved people of Antigua on 1 August 1834. In 2026 they make a four-day weekend from Saturday 1 to Tuesday 4 August.
The days are set by the Public Holidays (Amendment) Act 2005, and most of them are Monday holidays by design: Labour Day on the first Monday in May, Easter Monday, Whit Monday and the two Carnival days. The law also moves fixed days that land on a weekend. Independence Day, 1 November, falls on a Sunday in 2026 and is kept on Monday 2 November.
The government's list adds that Sundays, Christmas Day and Good Friday are also observed as common law holidays, alongside the days the statute names.

The government's own list, published by the Antigua and Barbuda Intellectual Property and Commerce Office for 2023, names eleven days. The National Day of Prayer, on the second Thursday in September, is the twelfth: it appears in the Wikipedia list of public holidays and in the calendars for 2026 and 2027, but not on that list.
Weekend rules differ by day. New Year's Day moves only from a Sunday, Independence Day from a Saturday or a Sunday, and Christmas moves to the Monday from a Saturday and to the Monday and Tuesday from a Sunday. The government's list gives no substitute rule for Boxing Day on its own, and 26 December 2026, a Saturday, has no Monday in lieu.
The Governor-General may proclaim further holidays on the advice of the cabinet, as the Wikipedia country article notes, so a one-off day off can be added in any year.
